Louisville, KY — February 19, 2026 — Simmons College of Kentucky has received a transformative boost with an $850,000 federal grant awarded to support major renovations at the College’s Westover Campus in west Louisville. The grant was announced by U.S. Representative Morgan McGarvey during a celebratory press event recognizing both the investment and recent academic achievements at the institution.
Investing in a State-of-the-Art Educational Hub
The grant will be directed toward renovating the historic Westover Campus — a former parish property donated to Simmons by the Archdiocese of Louisville — transforming it into a modern educational hub that will expand opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM). Construction is expected to begin shortly, with the new facility targeted to open in 2028.
“This is a really big deal for Louisville,” Rep. McGarvey said, noting that investing in Simmons is both an investment in students and in the future of the city. His remarks underscored the broader community impact this project is expected to have.
Dr. Kevin Cosby, President of Simmons College of Kentucky, emphasized that the facility — currently in need of significant rehabilitation — will be elevated to one of the most impressive educational spaces in Louisville with the help of this federal support, in addition to other city funding already secured.
Historic Academic Achievements
Alongside the grant announcement, Simmons celebrated several important academic achievements:

First 2 Graduates of the Master of Science in Medical Science Program
Simmons proudly celebrates Destiny Clark and Claire Curtis as the first graduates of the 2025 inaugural class of Simmons College of Kentucky’s Master of Science in Medical Science (MSMS) program.
As the first to cross this milestone, they are setting the standard for excellence, scholarship, and service in the medical field. Their achievement represents more than personal success; it marks the continued expansion of Simmons’ impact in preparing future physicians and healthcare leaders.
National Accreditation for the Teacher Education Program
Simmons’ Teacher Education Program received national accreditation from the Association for the Advancement of Quality Education Preparation Programs, reflecting growing academic stature and the strength of its teacher preparation offerings.
Together, these accomplishments highlight Simmons College’s ongoing progress in expanding academic programs, enhancing student success, and reaffirming its mission to promote educational opportunity, equity, and growth both locally and beyond.
Looking Forward
With renovations set to begin in the coming weeks and a dedication ceremony planned for fall 2026, Simmons College is poised for an exciting chapter of growth. The institution continues to build momentum as a leader in higher education and a vital force for community development in Louisville and throughout the region.
