MISSION & VISION
The Black Film Institute envisioned a global cinema landscape where diverse voices and stories are prominent, influential, and transformative. As we transition to becoming The Film and Media Studies concentration in the Cross Cultural Communications department we see a future where our graduates lead the film industry, reshaping narratives and breaking barriers. Our institute stands as a beacon of creativity, empowerment, and excellence in filmmaking education, inspiring a movement that amplifies authentic cultural experiences on screen.
The Film and Media Studies program at Simmons College of Kentucky is dedicated to cultivating a new generation of diverse filmmakers through unparalleled, hands-on training in all aspects of film production. We strive to preserve and celebrate Black cinema’s rich history while pushing the boundaries of storytelling, fostering an inclusive environment for collaboration and innovation with all diverse backgrounds. Our mission is to bridge the gap between education and industry, creating pathways for our students to launch successful careers and contribute to the economic and cultural growth of our community through film.
