Spread Your Wings

Simmons Leadership Institute (SLI)

The Simmons Leadership Institute, known to many as SLI, is designed to teach students the interpersonal skills and knowledge needed to engage in various leadership roles on campus, within the community, and in their futures. Each of the four phases allows the student to view leadership from different perspectives and provides opportunities to examine and enhance their skills. SLI is not for academic credit, but rather for self-exploration and personal development. SLI is a 6-week, 1-hour per week commitment per semester.

Student Retention

Student Retention

The Office of Student Retention has been designed to help students achieve academic success and ultimately graduate from Simmons College of Kentucky. Through this office, students will collaborate with team members to develop effective academic skills and strategies. This area operates through four major programmatic thrusts: Early Alert, The Falcon Pathway program, The Falcon Recovery program, and our Simmons Send-Off events each semester.

Early Alert

With students at the heart of the Simmons mission, Early Alert supports student access, success, and persistence by acknowledging academic progress, identifying and targeting barriers to student success, and providing an available student support network. Early Alert helps facilitate communication between instructors, students, and Simmons student support services. Through case management we will be able to identify, track, and engage students with the resources aligned to their specific needs.

The Falcon Pathway Program: Bridging Gaps for Incoming Students

This program is designed to help ensure incoming at-risk students are poised to take flight in a major way! Incoming students identified as at-risk are required to attend an informational session for TFP and are given the opportunity to opt into the program for their first year.

Program Requirements:
(4) 1-on-1 sessions with a Success Coach per semester (once a month) (2) hours of Study Hall per week
Must complete (2) of our Academic Enhancement Sessions

The Falcon Recovery Program

This program is for students who are placed on academic warning or probation. FRP is an intrusive program to help students get back on track and help to ensure that attrition does not increase due to academic struggles. This program is mandatory for all students on probation to stay enrolled in the College. The learning outcomes of the program would be for each student to identify their individual learning style, understand their external and internal influences, and develop skills to assess the factors within their control that promote academic success. The FRP program would promote student ownership of their educational experience. By owning their successes and failures, students are less likely to blame others and begin to move in a positive direction toward internal accountability and academic success.

Program Requirements (Academic Warning):
Initial Program Overview Meeting
(2) 1-on-1 sessions with a Success Coach per month (8 meetings total per semester)

Simmons Send-Off Initiatives/Events

Each Semester, our Send-Off initiatives and events (Fall/Spring Send-Off) help ensure all current/continuing students register for the next semester and handle any additional enrollment business. We realize that unfinished business can be a burden for students to deal with from home and when they return to school for the next semester. We want our students to be prepared in advance, and not have to worry over their breaks! Student Retention works alongside FACE and Student Success to help ensure all Simmons students utilize the Send-Off each semester to get their business handle before the semester ends!
