SIMMONS MARCHING FALCONS

The Revolutionary Sound of

The South

The Simmons College

of Kentucky Marching Falcons,

established in 2015, are committed

to offering exceptional musical

experiences that foster student

growth beyond the classroom.

Under the leadership of Director DeMarco Brown, The Revolutionary Sound of The South is setting new standards for HBCU Marching Bands. The band program has guided hundreds of students towards becoming well-rounded professionals and societal change agents. The Marching Falcons have captivated audiences of hundreds of thousands across the region, with notable performances at events like the African American Heritage Parade, the Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus Parade, University of Louisville’s Homecoming Parade, and Cordon’s Christmas Parade. In addition to supporting all Simmons College men's and women's basketball games, they also make special guest appearances at other HBCU football games, church functions, and community celebrations.

MEET OUR DIRECTOR

Born and raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, De’Marco Brown developed a love and passion for band early on, participating in both middle school and high school bands. After graduation, De’Marco moved to Cincinnati, OH, where he created a community marching band called Urban Centric. This opportunity allowed De’Marco to build and teach band programs from scratch at local high schools in Mt. Auburn and Woodward from 2013 to 2019.

De’Marco decided to attend Simmons College of Kentucky to complete a music degree, achieving many milestones during his time there. He served as student director, became assistant director upon graduation in 2022, and advanced to Head Band Director after completing his master’s degree in 2023.

As one of the first Instrumental Music majors and the first Simmons College alumnus to become the Head Band Director, De’Marco’s goal is to provide quality education, foster exceptional musicianship, and strive for outstanding representation and high achievements for the band, the music department, and Simmons College as a whole.

SATIN RHYTHM DANCE TEAM

The Satin Rhythm Dancers are more than their glamorous, choreographed performances — they are the on-field personification of the Simmons College Marching Falcons’ music. Led by longtime HBCU dance team coach Stefanie Kirtley, the Simmons’ dance team is a show-style, energetic force to be reckoned with.
