Serving Others Matters
In honor of Julian Ferrez Sam, a dedicated servant-leader who embodied the principle that “Serving Others Matters,” Simmons College of Kentucky is proud to announce the rebranding of our campus pantry to “Sam’s Place.”
Julian Sam demonstrated an unwavering commitment to student well-being throughout his many roles at Simmons College, including Band Director and Director of Student Experience. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while others worked remotely, Julian personally prepared and delivered meals to students remaining in housing, exemplifying his selfless dedication to ensuring no student went without proper nourishment. Julian passed away in August 2021.
Sam’s Place continues this legacy by addressing food insecurity that can create unnecessary hardships for students. We recognize that proper nourishment is essential for students to thrive mentally, physically, and emotionally. Through our ongoing partnerships with Kroger, Sam’s Place remains stocked with fresh food and toiletry items essential for daily living.
By naming our pantry after Julian Sam, we honor a man who made Simmons College a better place through his integrity, creativity, vision, and unwavering commitment to student care. Sam’s Place stands as a testament to his belief that serving others truly matters.
Opening Fall 2025
Sam’s Place will begin taking orders on Monday, August 18, 2025 before assuming normal operating hours on Tuesday.
