A Record-Setting 210 New Freshmen!
The energy on our main campus has been electric. The new semester just began—and with it, a record-breaking milestone: Simmons College of Kentucky has welcomed 210 new freshmen, the largest incoming class in our proud history as Louisville’s only HBCU.
These new Falcons join a growing student body at one of the fastest-growing HBCUs in the nation, percentage-wise. Our momentum is undeniable, and it’s fueled by an unwavering commitment to our mission—preparing students to soar academically, professionally, and personally.
Reduced tuition. More student services. Increased accessibility.
This year brings not just growth, but transformation. Pittman Hall, our historic on-campus housing, has been fully renovated and is now ready to welcome a new generation of scholars. We’ve also reduced tuition, expanded student services, and introduced fully online programs—making a Simmons education more accessible than ever before.
In a time when many institutions face pressure to scale back diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, Simmons stands strong as a private HBCU—free to continue offering the support, mentorship, and culturally affirming environment our students count on. As Chief of Staff Myra Rock shared, our students “feel more safe and secure at an HBCU… because we don’t have the restrictions and limitations on the support that we can provide.”
Our resilience is strengthened by the generous investments of donors who believe in our mission. Renovations like those in Pittman Hall are made possible by their commitment, not federal dollars—ensuring Simmons remains steadfast in who we are and what we stand for.
New Possibilities
For first-year students like Kenyen Martin, a future sociology major eager to learn about people, cultures, and communities, the journey ahead is filled with possibility. As one new Falcon put it, “We just have to stick through it and not let the bad take away the good in things.”
At Simmons, we agree wholeheartedly. We will continue to be the college that has our students’ backs—through every challenge, every opportunity, and every victory. Because here, Falcons don’t just adapt. We rise.
Welcome, Class of 2029. Your future starts now.
