Papa John’s Founder & Family Foundation’s Historic Contribution
LOUISVILLE, KY (March 3, 2026) – Simmons College of Kentucky announced today that it has received a $2.5 million commitment from the founder of Papa John’s International, John Schnatter, and the John H. Schnatter Family Foundation. The gift marks one of the largest private contributions in the college’s recent history, and signals continued momentum in its growth and expansion.
Simmons’ Campus Expansion Continues
The investment will support Simmons College’s purchase, renovation, and expansion of newly secured vacant residential condominiums at College Court. As Louisville’s only historically Black institution of higher learning, Simmons continues to expand its operations, increase enrollment, and strengthen the HBCU’s role as an anchor in Louisville’s urban core.
“This generous gift amplifies the amazing growth and momentum of Simmons College, as one of America’s fastest growing Historically Black Colleges and Universities. I am deeply grateful to John Schnatter for his willingness to support the mission of Simmons College of Kentucky. His investment affirms that education changes lives, strengthens families, and builds stronger communities. We receive this gift with humility, gratitude, and a shared commitment to expanding opportunity for the next generation.”
President Kevin W. Cosby, Ph.D., D.Min.,
“It is a privilege to be able to share the blessings I’ve received. Supporting Simmons College and its campus development is an honor as the institution continues to grow and remains a vital pillar in the Louisville community. I’m especially proud to stand alongside longtime friends and trusted leaders who have helped shape Louisville for decades, including Simmons College President Dr. Kevin Cosby, Dr. Samuel Tolbert of the National Baptist Convention of America International, Inc., and Rev. Dr. Charles Elliott, who has been close to our family for more than 60 years.”
