Generational Impact
Teacher Education
The Simmons Teacher Education Program (STEP) offers dynamic and comprehensive programs to prepare aspiring K-5 educators for successful careers in the field of Elementary Education. The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Teacher Education licenses individuals to become classroom teachers. Courses for the BS degree are taught primarily face-to-face, with a limited number of online courses. They also support both traditional and nontraditional students by offering evening courses.
The Teacher Education program is committed to nurturing compassionate, competent, and culturally responsive educators. It focuses on preparing educators to make a positive impact on the lives of children and contributing to the enhancement of the educational landscape.
Career Info
The successful completion of a BS in Teacher Education leads to certification as a K-5 elementary school teacher. According to recent data, there are over 300,000 teacher vacancies in the United States. In Kentucky, teacher vacancies are impacting the delivery of quality educational services to a wide range of students. Kentucky has multiple areas with teacher shortages, and districts are unable to fill available positions with qualified professionals. The completion of a BS degree will equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to work with K-5 students in various educational settings.

School of Education Consumer Information
The Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA) requires that post-secondary institutions participating in federal student aid programs make certain disclosures to enrolled and prospective students, parents, employees, and the public. The following information is disclosed to you in compliance with federal law. Provide Program Feedback and Receive a Fair and Unbiased Hearing
Candidates will have an opportunity to provide feedback at the end of every course through an anonymous survey, which is routed electronically to the Provost’s office. After data are reviewed, summarized, and analyzed, aggregated results are sent to each program’s department chair or director, including teacher education.
The program administrator then shares and discusses the anonymous candidate feedback with appropriate faculty members. If trends are noted over two or more semesters, an action plan is developed. In conjunction with the institution’s commitment to maximizing student success and fostering a positive learning environment, the provider also supports candidates in voicing concerns, complaints, and appeal requests through a secure form.
Submissions are routed to a provider triage mailbox, which is accessed by the director, who reviews each submission, follows up as needed, and tracks each issue.
